7th World Surfactants Congress

Dear Colleagues,

The 7th World Surfactants Congress (CESIO 2008) was a great success and we thank all delegates, sponsors and exhibitors for your valuable participation. Organised by the French Association for Surfactants (ASPA), on behalf of the European Committee of Organic Surfactants and their Intermediates (CESIO), the event gathered over 900 participants and 40 exhibitors!

Within the frame of the Congress theme: "Surfactants, the key to your sustainable applications", 100 oral communications and 130 posters were presented.
Plenary lectures were given by Mr. Bernard Brancq, Prof. Dominique Langevin, Dr. Charles Bragg and Ms. Carol Henry and there was also an interesting Round Table discussion led by Ms. Conny Czymoch and with representatives from Akzo Nobel, BASF, Cognis, Croda, Hunstman and Rhodia.

The main outcomes of the congress were:
Surfactants, so useful in our daily life for a better health and wellness, from the kitchen to the bathroom, the hospital, our buildings, our furniture and our clothes, are safe to use.
REACH, the new regulation for chemicals in Europe that will definitely highlight the low risks for humans and the environment versus the important benefits of their surfactants sustainability, was also discussed in terms of raw materials supply, while showing the importance of keeping the industry and its profitability also sustainable.

The CESIO surfactants sector organisation is implementing the REACH requirements via 22 pre-consortia dealing with the high volume families to develop the sameness check, the date sharing and signing contracts with 20 member companies, including cost sharing.
